Sabina was living in La Paz, Mexico, a large bustling city
in southern Baja. Her ‘home’ was a True Value
parking lot. She was suffering. As if being emaciated, with
two types of mange, skin infections and eye ulcers wasn’t
enough, Sabina was also pregnant. Her body was so twisted
she could barely walk at all. It was a miracle she had survived
so long.
Sabina was rescued in order to put her
out of her misery. But first she was taken to Kathleen's
house. When Kathleen saw the sparkle in Sabina's eye, she
knew she had to help her heal.
It took well over a year for Sabina to
recover, although the starvation took its toll and Sabina
will never recover completely.
Today, Sabina is simple and innocent.
She loves each moment. In fact Sabina finds so much joy
in each moment that she teaches everyone who meets her to
live with hope. She's gone from being unable to walk to
enjoying long walks, from being miserable to being completely
happy and content.
Kathleen now refers to Sabina as the
'shadow dog' because she refuses to leave Kathleen’s
side. And when she’s at home, Sabina's favorite passtime
is playing with her stuffed animals. |
