Red

Red

Starved for attention, Red waited for the door to open. Alone and lonely he stood in the cold and wet yard of a house in northern Washington. He was given food and water but longed for attention. Red waited for 17 long months. In desperation he tore the siding off the house trying to get in. Eventually the family called Great Dane Rescue.

Meanwhile, Kristen had been waiting too, for 9 months, hoping to adopt a young Great Dane. When the call came, Kristen had one day to get her family to the shelter at the Canadian Border or Red would be put up for adoption.
Instantly Red knew Kristen was the mommy he’d been waiting for all that time. And leaning into the kids, he couldn’t get enough contact with them either. It was a perfect match! But there was one small problem.

Kristen’s family had planned a three week camping trip just days after they picked up Red. And Red was untrained. They decided to take the very large, young dog along. Kristen returned home with two broken toes after trying to keep Red contained when he bolted from the tent one morning. But the whole family – all five of them – had plenty of time to get to know their new soul mate. The training would come, but the love was something everyone understood and thrived on immediately.
